Rich is an expert on health policy and strategy, with 20+ years’ experience of seeing the slightly ridiculous world of health and care from a range of perspectives.
Rich founded the radical social enterprise Kaleidoscope Health and Care in 2016 because he couldn’t find anywhere he wanted to work. You can hear him talk about the origins of Kaleidoscope in The Right Work podcast.
Before that, Rich worked in a number of easy-to-acronymise organisations, including as Director of Policy at the Health Foundation, Head of Regulatory Change at the Care Quality Commission, and Deputy Director at the Department of Health. His time in government included advising Ministers on health strategy, and legislating for reorganisations ‘so big you can see them from space’. He also spent time at the Cabinet Office and HM Treasury.
In non-executive roles, Rich was Chair of the Board at Here, a Sussex-based social enterprise provider of health services, with a mission to deliver exceptional care, for everyone. He was also Deputy Chair of the much-missed House of St Barnabas.
Rich is passionate about a lot of things but particularly improving how organisations work, understanding why people don’t talk to each other, and Crystal Palace’s prospects of adding to their trophy cabinet.
He also writes on where strategy goes wrong, how boards can support better decisions, and a manifesto for better government policy-making.
